How to unlock your Vehicle using the Tesla Mobile App?

Model 3 may be unlocked and started via the smartphone app. This could be beneficial if you don't have your key card or key fob, are having problems with your phone key, or aren't physically near the vehicle (for example, you want to unlock the vehicle for your spouse from across town).

To allow the mobile app to communicate with your vehicle, both your phone and your vehicle must be actively connected to cellular service, and mobile access must be enabled on the touchscreen (Controls > Safety & Security > Allow Mobile Access). If you're parking in an area with limited or no cellular service, such as an inside parking garage, Tesla suggests having a functional physical key on hand.

To unlock your vehicle using the mobile app:

  • Launch the mobile app.
  • Press 'Controls' > 'Unlock.'
  • Press 'Yes' on the popup window to confirm.

To start the vehicle with the mobile app:

  • Launch the mobile app.
  • Press 'Controls' > 'Start.'
  • Provide the Tesla Account login credentials in the confirmation popup.

Note: After enabling keyless driving, you will have two minutes to begin driving. You must re-enable keyless driving if the two-minute limit has expired before driving.
