Apply WD-40 to Door Handle Pivot Pins On Tesla Model 3

WD-40 applied to door handle pivot pins in extreme winter circumstances can assist avoid ice buildup that could paralyse the handle. If you're expecting freezing rain, heavy snow, or icy conditions, spray WD-40 on the door handle pivot pins. As needed, reapply.

Caution: Read and follow the instructions and advice provided by WD-40 before going through this process.

Steps to apply WD-40 to the door handle pivot pin:

  • Put on your safety glasses.
  • Use a folded towel or other soft cloth to prop open the door doorknob.
  • Connect the included straw to the WD-40 bottle's nozzle.
  • Place the straw's end next to the pivot pin and spray it for about a second, being careful not to spray any other components.
Note: To better aim the spray, rest the end of the straw on the top of the spring around the pivot pin.

Warning: It is recommended to wear eye protection when applying WD-40.

  • Remove the towel or other soft material that was used to prop open the door.
  • Approximately ten times, pivot the door handle in and out.
  • Place the end of the straw near to the pivot pin a second later and spray it for about one second, being careful not to spray other components.
  • Remove the towel or other soft material that was used to prop open the door.
  • Approximately ten times, pivot the door handle in and out.
  • Carry on with the other three door handles in the same manner.
