Using the Key Fob Tesla Model Y
If you have the key fob accessory, you may rapidly become acquainted with this key by visualizing it as a miniature replica of the Model Y, with the Tesla badge on the front. Three buttons on the key resemble softer parts on the surface.
- Double-click to open the front trunk.
- With one click, you can lock all doors and trunks (all doors and trunks must be closed). A double-click will unlock doors and trunks.
- Double-click to open the rear trunk. Hold down for 1-2 seconds to open the charge port door.
Within two minutes of pressing the unlock button on the key fob, turn on Model Y by pushing the brake pedal (see Starting and Powering Off). If you wait more than two minutes, you must either push the unlock button again or place the key fob near the card reader on the centre console, which is located behind the cup holders. The two-minute authentication time begins again when your key fob is recognized.
When approaching or leaving Model Y with the key fob, you do not need to click a button while pointing the key fob at Model Y, but you must be within functioning range. The key can be affected by radio equipment of a similar frequency. If this happens, relocate the key away from other electronic equipment by at least one foot (30 cm) (phone, laptop, etc.).
If the key fob doesn't function (for example, because the battery is dead), place it flat against the card reader on the driver's side door pillar (like the key card). See Replacing the Key Fob Battery.
Note: As long as you validate the key fob, you can use it with various Model Y vehicles (see Managing Keys). A key fob, on the other hand, can only be used with one Model Y at a time. Touch the flat side of a key fob for a different Model Y against the card reader on the driver's side door pillar to use it.
Note: The Model Y can support up to four different key fobs.
CAUTION: Protect the key from impacts, extreme temperatures, and liquid damage. Solvents, waxes, and abrasive cleaners should all be avoided.
