Tesla hasn't yet dispatched the Cybertruck or the full-size Cyberquad that made an impression at the unveiling of its apocalyptic designed pickup truck, but if you purchase one now from its website, you can get a mini Cyberquad built for the kids in 2-4 weeks.
The Tesla 'Cyberquad for Kids' is available for $1,900 on Tesla's website, which is a pricey compared to your normal Power Wheels, but it is by far the cheapest car in Tesla's present lineup.
Quad Specs
The Cyberquad's materials are a notch above your usual battery electric kid car. This new miniature Cyberquad has a maximum weight of 150 pounds and is aimed towards children aged 8 and up who have parents who can afford it. The bike comes with a steel frame, padded seat, and adjustable suspension with rear disc brakes. There are even LED light bars to complete the cyberpunk aesthetic.
It's the cheapest Tesla, but it's also the smallest in terms of range: you'll get only 15 miles on a full charge, which takes about five hours to complete, according to the EV automaker. The battery range is affected by the rider’s weight, terrain, and speed setting.
With a top speed of 10 mph on the speedometer, it's also not likely to set any land speed records (which you can limit to a max of 5 mph for safety if desired). That's still a lot of speed for a kid's ride-on vehicle.
For the time being, the Cyberquad for Kids is only available in the United States, and Tesla does not promise delivery in time for Christmas, despite the fact that it would be a spectacular item to open beneath the tree.
Meanwhile, the Cybertruck that inspired it has been postponed until the end of 2022, and it's still unknown whether the full-size Cyberquad will be available at that time, though Elon Musk has previously stated that it will ship with the all-electric pickup.
Franz von Holzhausen shared a video of his children piloting the new Cyberquad on Twitter. Franz has been in charge of design at Tesla since 2008, and he was one of the lead designers on the Tesla Model S, 3, X, Y, and the announced but yet-to-be-released Cybertruck, Semi, and second-generation Tesla Roadster. He worked in design for Mazda, General Motors, and Volkswagen before joining Tesla.
Musk's Kids
No doubt, Tesla’s Technoking Elon Musk will have reserved a few Cyberquad bikes for his brood. He shares custody of his other five sons with his former wife, Justine Wilson.
In 2004, Musk and then-wife Justine welcomed twins Griffin and Xavier. The twins, who are now 17, were conceived through IVF. Then there's the triplets, Kai, Saxon and Damian Musk who were born in 2006. They too were conceived through IVF. While Musk has never spoken publicly about his life with his sons, and very little is known about them.
Then on May 5, 2020, Elon Musk and partner Grimes announced the arrival of their little boy, X Æ A-Xii. The correct pronunciation is: “X Ash A Twelve.” The name was an effort of both parents, Musk said, and half-inspired by “the coolest plane ever” while the “A-Xii” portion of the child’s name is a reference to the “Archangel 12” CIA program, which created the airplane the SR-71.
The Tesla founder detailed some aspects of his relationship with the kids in an article in 2010. “Custody of our five children is split evenly. Almost all of my non-work waking hours are spent with my boys, and they are the love of my life,” he wrote at the time.
