Obstacle Aware Acceleration with Autopilot Tesla Model Y
If Model Y identifies an obstacle in its driving path, Obstacle-Aware Acceleration is designed to mitigate the impact of a collision by lowering motor torque. Model Y, for example, detects that you have pressed hard on the accelerator pedal when parked in front of a closed garage door with the Drive gear engaged.
Even though the Model Y accelerates and collides with the garage door, the lesser torque may cause less damage.
Obstacle-Aware Acceleration is only activated when all of these requirements are met at the same time:
- A driving gear (Drive or Reverse) is selected.
- Model Y is at a standstill or moving at less than 10 mph (16 km/h).
- Model Y detects an object in its route of travel.
See Collision Avoidance Assist and Autopilot Overview and Features.
Touch Controls > Autopilot > Obstacle-Aware Acceleration to turn the feature off.
WARNINGS:
- Obstacle-Aware Acceleration is intended to lessen the severity of a collision. It isn't built to prevent colliding with anything.
- Obstacle-Aware Acceleration may not be able to restrict torque in all circumstances.
- Obstacle-Aware Acceleration can be limited, delayed, or inhibited by a variety of circumstances, including ambient conditions, distance from an obstacle, and a driver's actions.
- When making a sharp turn, such as into a parking space, Obstacle-Aware Acceleration may not control torque.
- Do not use Obstacle-Aware Acceleration to regulate acceleration or to avoid or lessen the severity of a collision, and do not try to test it. This can lead to significant property damage, injuries, or death.
- Several variables can impair the functioning of Obstacle-Aware Acceleration, resulting in an untimely or improper reduction in motor torque. It is the driver's obligation to drive safely and keep Model Y under his or her control at all times.
