French Minister of Economy and Finance, Bruno Le Maire, expressed his optimism on Sunday that Tesla CEO Elon Musk may invest in a future project in France. Speaking on the sidelines of the Rencontres économiques d'Aix-en-Provence event, Le Maire told LCI, "I have good hope that Elon Musk will make an investment in France." He added that Musk knows he is welcome in the country, where he has met with both President Emmanuel Macron and Le Maire on several occasions.
When asked if this investment would specifically focus on batteries or electric vehicles, the minister replied that there were "several options on the table." He continued, "It's up to him to decide," referring to the CEO of Tesla, a pioneer in electric vehicles, and also involved in the space industry through SpaceX.
In June, Elon Musk had reiterated his interest in France, considering it "very likely" that a significant future project would take place in the country. However, he did not confirm the establishment of a battery factory desired by Emmanuel Macron. During the Choose France summit in mid-May at Versailles, the billionaire had already promised that Tesla would make "significant investments in France."
So far, nothing concrete has materialized, and Musk's choice could also lean towards Spain, almost four years after selecting Berlin as the location for Tesla's first electric vehicle factory in Europe.
