Tesla is hitting new milestones of four consecutive profitable quarters. The electric car maker is focusing on the rapid development of new technologies, despite the slowdown of every other industry in the world because of coronavirus pandemic.
As we already know, Elon Musk works 2-3 times more than all the best car producers in the world, which gives him time to conquer the EV market while everybody else is sleeping.
The newest push from Tesla is going towards the nickel miners. The mastermind CEO is asking the miners to produce more nickel because the company is in a rush to manufacture battery cells.
According to Elon Musk, the nickel battery cells have a higher energy density, which will allow the company to go further with its recent inventions.
On the other hand, Giga Shanghai will produce Model 3 with iron phosphate cells as an alternative to the nickel cells.
Mr. Musk also said, “There’s like two general classes of cells, there’s like iron phosphate and then the nickel-based. The nickel-based cells have a higher energy density, so longer range. Obviously, those are needed for something like a Semi where every unit of mass that you add in a battery pack, you have to subtract in cargo. So it’s very important to have a mass-efficient and long-range pack for batteries.”
With this statement, Tesla’s CEO encourages nickel miners to produce as much nickel as possible, offering a lot of collaboration with the EV company in the long run.
One of the conditions to mine nickel for Tesla is to use environment-friendly methods.
Mr. Musk is offering a “giant contract” to all the nickel mining companies around the world, but he is insisting on an environmentally sensitive way of mining.
“Go for efficiency, obviously environmentally-friendly nickel mining at high volume. Tesla will give you a giant contract for a long period of time. So hopefully this message goes out to all mining companies. Please get nickel,” he added.
The estimate from the research firm Wood Mackenzie is that the demand for nickel will increase by 64% between 2019 and 2025.
To be honest, this fact is not surprising at all. Following the development of the EV market and the increase in battery cell production, especially by Tesla, we can expect an increase in nickel mining worldwide.
Tesla is the number one electric vehicle company in the world, and it is only getting started.
The mass production of electric vehicles by Tesla will boost nickel mining activities around the world, which is beneficial for both parties.
